As communication provider for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Ecological System Plan, Smart Hive worked with MPRB planners and the community advisory committee to understand the topics related to the ecological plan, gather insights from the public, and create ways to communicate key issues to the public. One of the first communications created was this visualization designed to helped community members understand and discuss topics that influence and relate to the ecology in the parks. It was used as part of the community engagement efforts by the MPRB, the poster was a conversation starter and reference for those involved in the planning process.
“The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Ecological System Plan will seek to understand the ecology of the city and watershed, then plan for parks and public lands management and improvements that benefit both humans and nature. It will address specific threats such as climate change, decreasing water quality, the explosion of invasive species, increasing runoff, and fragmentation of habitat. It will envision a more environmentally sound way of managing the impacts of the city, so that the city can be cleaner, greener, cooler, and more efficient.”
As planners developed the goals and strategies for the Ecological System Plan, Smart Hive created the public-facing presentation of the plan goals. It is designed to organize and visualize the goals to help people understand the major areas impacted and what can be addressed in the future.
