I am very concerned about the disappearing bee population in the United States (and elsewhere). To learn about the rapidly declining number of bees (23% died this past winter) make me worried about the viability of our planet. Without bees we aren’t eating many fruits and veggies and the ecosystem in which we live is threatened. I wanted to do something to raise awareness and saving the bees.
I created this poster as a easy reminder of the two things we can do to help save the bees. First, we can plant flowers. This seems like the easiest and most beautiful thing we can ask folks to so. If every yard had a bee-friendly flower bed, the bees would be able to find enough nourishment to live. Secondly we need to stop using pesticides, especially those with neonicotinoids. These pesticides are poisoning bees, making them unable to find their way back to their hives. Then they die.
I don’t actually like bugs, at all. I used to be a person who brought the Raid out at the first sight of a creepy-crawly. Bees are different. They pollinate our fruits and vegetables. They make honey. They are an important part of our food chain. We need to change to keep them around. Save the bees!
