Given all of the media attention to marriage equality I wanted to do some data journalism on the topic. Publicly available data on the LGBT community can be difficult to track down and work with. This spread based on the Kaiser Family Foundation study, Inside-OUT: A Report on the Experiences of Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals in America and the Public’s Views on Issues and Policies Related to Sexual Orientation. The report comes from 2000, so it is a bit dated. I wish I could find an updated survey to compare how attitudes have changed over the last decade. In the meantime, it’s still helpful to view the data we have access to.
